I just received my set of steel 17" wheels and lug nuts from DiscountTireDirect.com tonight and gave them a dry fit. All looks great and I just purchased a set of General Arctic Altimax winter tires from my next door neighbor that are practically new off his Odyssey to mount on the steel wheels. I have had numerous sets of these tires and really like them. I got them to beat Summit Racing's price on the wheels for $59 each, no tax and free shipping. Also, the lug nuts were priced down to $45. I was a bit worried about the factory lug wrench not fitting on the new lugs, but it is perfect. I also bought a set of wheel covers from Amazon for $20. In the pics you can see that the key accommodates both 13/16"and 7/8" size sockets and the factory wrench as well. I will have the tires mounted and balanced soon and be ready for winter.

Are you putting in TPMS sensors?

Does anybody know that if you do not go the TPMS route if the information screen will have an error ( the info area on the cluster where MPG, etc is displayed) which will have to be toggled every time the van is started or does only the TPMS symbol stay lit?

Good question, I was hoping that it would just be the TPMS and tire symbol and not an info screen takeover, but there's no way that I was going to put TPMS sensors in the steel wheels or swap them out from the factory ones, or install them in both sets and then have to deal with them reprogramming them twice annually. I will lose the VSC and have to live with the warnings for 3 months a year. I do hope that it's just the TPMS and tire lights.

I just did a quick search and unless things changed, I may be stuck with the annoying chime and message described here:

They are 17" x 7", and TPMS should work fine on the steelies, I think the LX comes with them standard. I don't want to pay twice a year to reset the sensors. The cloning idea is cool if it really works without a problem.
Here is the link to the Summit Racing wheels: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/crr-83-7713/overview/
I had DiscountTireDirect beat that price plus I will get a $30 rebate for using their credit card.
Here is their link: Wheel Details - Discount Tire Direct
They also had the proper lug nuts that work with the wheels.

Today I was performing my 2nd tire rotation at 10,000 miles and decided to install one of the winter wheels to try to set off the TPMS warning just to see what it would look/sound like. I drove for a few miles but could not get it to activate. I guess it will take a while in the winter for it to activate. Anyway, I took some pics of the tires mounted on the steel wheels and next to the 15" winter set from my old Mazda MPV and they are huge compared to them.

Are you preparing for snow this early? I must admit that I saw a Ford Super Duty with a 8' snow plow on the front of it while traveling MA Rt2 over the weekend. Thought it was overkill, cause the leafs are still on the trees!

I'm waiting for some October deals on rubber.

I've mounted the same rims and can attest that there definitely is no rubbing, or any other issue. Also, I drove around before the new TPMS sensor ID's were uploaded to the car,
and the only alert was the tpms idiot light on the dash. No chime or anything.
Thanks for posting your research EOT 4 Life. It saved me lots of time!

Just put the tires on the Odyssey today and as expected after about 30 minutes of driving, the TPMS light came on but no chime or other alert at the moment. The VSA could not be turned off (as expected) as well. I would have mounted them much sooner but the weather has been so warm in NY that I decided to wait for our first storm to put them on.

Just switched back to the OEM tires yesterday and the TPMS light went out after a few miles of driving. What I noticed and don't like is even with doing 5,000 mile rotations myself, the OEM Michelins will be shot probably within another 5,000 miles. They only have around 14,000 miles on them and 2 are approaching the wear bars already. These are not cheap tires to replace either. When the time comes, I will be going with a different brand.

Just an update on the Arctics, this is my 2nd winter with them on and had a nice 4-5 inches of show yesterday and they were fantastic, especially driving up this long hill right near my home that many 2wd vehicles can't make it up during a storm. It didn't even slip once going up, although I was able to make my anti-locks kick in going down that same hill just a bit. I am always impressed with the real difference a good set of winter tires makes in snow driving.

Updating this thread a bit....last winter was the last one with the Arctics, which were worn pretty bad, so I ordered a set of Cooper Discoverer True Norths a year ago today and they are great. I used them all last winter and just put them on again today for the season. They also received top ratings in Consumer Reports for whatever that's worth. I will see how they wear going forward...Ordered them in 225/65/17..

Sorry, just saw this now. I haven't had any issues regarding the VSA and traction, but fortunately it hasn't been a rough winter here in NY at all. I just took off the winter tires yesterday as a matter of fact, which is a little earlier than I usually would. The Cooper Discoverer True Norths are wearing very well.

Just updating an old thread of mine. I found a simple workaround to disable the VSA when running my winter tire set without TPMS sensors. I used my BlueDriver OBD tool to reset the TPMS fault and the VSA is now operational for a good long while before the code reappears, which will be more than enough if anyone gets stuck a bit and needs the extra wheelspin offered by disabling the VSA. I have driven from my house into town and back, and it it still working fine as I type this. The only thing is you need to carry the module with you during the winter months, or even keep it plugged in all winter long for easy access.

Just updating now-I got over 12 miles on it before the TPMS light came back on and the VSA was able to be de-activated for the whole trip.
