First off - thanks for taking the time to read this.

My wife and I decided to join the Odyssey club last week by buying our first EX-L (2022). Right off the bat we noticed some interesting things but haven't had a chance to address them with the dealer. I wanted to ask here to see if these are "normal" and if I'm overthinking it first.

Rough Idle - A few days ago I went out to the car to check out some of the features and explore all of the menu options. I fired up the car to run the AC to keep myself cool while checking it out (it's already 85F+ here in Houston with 1000% humidity haha). I noticed the engine skipping every few seconds while the AC was on. If it's turned off the engine idles 'smoothly'. I cycled the AC 4-5 times over the course of sitting there for 10 minutes and the problem persisted. I've monitored it over the last few days and it does not matter if the car is warmed up or after a cold start. While it's worse when the vehicle is in park I still feel it when the car is in drive at a stop light, just not as bad. It's almost like a cylinder misfires. I popped the hood just to take a look in the engine bay and you can pretty clearly see the engine shudder when it happens. I figured if a cylinder was misfiring I would get a check engine light and could diagnose it with a code reader... but no light. The car at this point only has 200 miles on it.

Infotainment Touch Issue - We noticed a couple of weird things with the infotainment system. I know they have been terrible for Honda's over the last few years but I've heard they 'corrected' the issue. With ours it's more of a touch sensitivity issue. I can try to press a button and it works as well as my phone but then 50% of the time I can't get a button to click. I almost have to press and swipe my finger to get it to react. I've adjusted the sensitivity to both high and low but the problem still exists. It's a little distracting while driving if I'm trying to get my map back to center (see the next part). Also on random occasion when using car play it's almost like a ghost is touching my screen - my map will randomly scroll away from my current location (google maps) or it will randomly 'select' incoming text messages and start reading them to me (it has done this twice now).

Am I losing my mind or being overly sensitive with these two things or should I take it in for the dealer to inspect? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I came here just to ask the exact same thing about the rough idle. We just bought our 2021 EX-L, 400 miles on it currently and but I've noticed it since it had 20 miles. First time I start the car, especially if it's cold. I can feel the passenger seat vibrate a bit when pulling out of the garage and putting my hand on it. I'm sure the AC compressor turns on right away cause the car is hot inside and the temperature is set to auto. It's like this when in P or in D and R when holding the brake pedal. It seems to go away after you drive it for a few minutes.

Not sure about the infotainment issue

Not sure if this is your issue, but there's a Honda pre-delivery inspection manual (you can find it online) that mentions something about the dealer having to take the engine out of factory mode, or something like that. If they don't, it can cause rough running or idle. Just mentioning that as a possibility.

Haven't notice this issue with our 2022 Touring.

As far as the air conditioning vibrations, they may be the new normal for the new Freon. Check your sticker that specifies which one it is. The old Freon was R134a, the new one is R1234yf. The new one has higher head pressures and is more flammable, but is more earth friendly.
I just had that problem on my 2013 which has the old Freon. I could not figure it out. My independent mechanic said he could not find anything and the system was cooling perfectly.
While I was there I had them replace my battery which was due and when they did it they had it disconnected for a good while. When I drove home the air problem was gone.
I found that my system has an AC pressure sensor that gives data to the PCM that uses it to turn the compressor on and off based on system pressure. So I don’t know if resetting the PCM by disconnecting battery cleared bad data or it was something else.

Someone on this forum added a protective film to his touch screen and it improved the performance. He was just protecting it and did not expect that result.

I too have had issues with touching the screen (2022 EX-L, 4 days old). The major pain was trying to set the presets of the Sirius radio. No matter how lightly or hard I touched the screen to set the station, 90% of the time it would just select the station instead of set the new one. Another hair-pulling moment was entering my wifi in the Network screen to check for a software update. It took me 20 aggravating minutes to type and re-type my password. Going back a screen, certain letters/numbers were fine. Others had no response. I tried all kinds of things like changing the keyboard, getting out of the keyboard/going back in, and slowly, each character of my password will work. I'm starting to think if it's defective. I changed the sensitivity to high and low to see if that did anything but nope.

And I use apple carplay. It seems I have to unlock my phone each time in order for me to click on the carplay icon. Is that a thing? I could always keep my phone locked in other non-Honda vehicles and operate carplay.

Have you had any luck with the dealership? We just got the 2022 EX-L last Sunday and have been having intermittent touch-screen issues as well... sometimes every touch registers just fine, but often touches won't register at all or will require many taps before finally working - which is super-dangerous while driving...

I'm bringing it in to the dealership in a week to see if they can fix it - very disappointing for a brand new vehicle... I mentioned it after the test drive, but they wrote it off as "protective film is probably still on" (it wasn't, but I wasn't smart enough to go check).

Any update on the idling? I have a 2022 touring and felt like idling is off but I could just be sensitive with it. Car runs fine no issues.

It's been okay on the main screen. By okay, I mean one touch works most of the time and sometimes have to hit it twice and usually works by then.

I haven't dove back into the other screens like typing in wifi info. I'm still scarred from that experirence.

Now I'm thinking is it just me and not pressing with the right amount of pressure? It's tough because my previous car was a VW Tiguan and I can touch the screen no matter how hard and soft and it will behave/work the same way every time.

How'd your service visit go?

have you tried checking your iphone settings for carplay?

Settings --> General --> Carplay --> (select your vehicle) --> make sure the "allow carplay while locked" is flipped on.

As far as touchscreen issues go:
I took my 2022 EX-L in last week and they confirmed touch screen issues... I took it in today when they had time booked to troubleshoot with Honda, and pretty soon Honda told them they have seen issues where the screws for the screen were installed too tightly at the factory, damaging the touch panel and requiring replacement... so now they've back-ordered a new screen for me and I'm waiting for that to become available to have replaced.

As far as vibrations go, I've definitely noticed some - searching around, it seems like Honda's VCM is the likely culprit - this thread gets into some good details:
I have noticed way better milage on this 2022 than our previous 2013 for sure...

me 2022 EX-L, if i turn off the AC then its smooth, but with AC on it has the occasional "studer" when it kicks on. there are other posts guestimating the cause is because of the different AC system that uses new refrigerant that requires higher pressure so system stays on shorter, but cycles more frequent.
try turning off the AC and see if idle still rough.

It’s definitely connected to the a/c, so that theory makes sense. It seems like a design defect that the vibrations are so pronounced in the front seats, or a defect in manufacturing. I doubt that vibration from the A/C unit was one of the deliverables for the engineering team. If it’s unavoidable and normal, you would find this on every new vehicle. Maybe this is the new normal, but somehow I doubt it.

Rough idling can lead to premature engine mount wear, correct? They really need to address this.

As for VCM causing a rough idle, doesn't the VCM only work at highway speeds, hence, the engine would not be at idle?

Ran a tank of 93 octane and just about no difference than 87.
There will be little to no difference because the Odys have internal octane adjusters in the software. They've had that for years. My 2002 had that.

As an update here on the infotainment system - I took the vehicle to the dealership and they were able to replicate the touch issue. Honda told them to fully reset the computer back to factory settings and be sure it was fully up to date. The 'fix' did not fix my issue. The dealership informed me that I would need to bring it back and they would 'try again' to fix the issue. I will provide an update after the next service appointment. I'm hoping they will just replace the unit because it is clearly defective.
