Here are some pictures showing the differences between fake parts found on eBay & Amazon vs. Genuine parts purchased from Honda dealer and Rock Auto (NOTE: Genuine timing belt purchased from Honda dealer)

CAUTION: Do not use fake / counterfeit parts. Many people have experienced failures of the fake parts soon after installing them, often resulting in $$$$ expensive repairs.

One funny thing I noted is that on five of the component packages the fake kit used the same label for different parts. The part name is changed, but the UPC code and ID# are the same. (Pic attached)

Don't bother installing these parts - or expect failure and redo with more parts later. I purchased this "too good to be true" price package off eBay a few months ago, installed everything with ease, but the water pump started leaking within two months of operation. I just replaced it again with a Gates brand pump which is still not as good as OEM but more reliable than whatever crap company is making the fakes.

We don't really need 4 separate threads so I merged them. There is a per post picture attachment limit but you can post the rest of the pictures in a reply to the original thread.

Let me add here what you should see for genuine OEM Honda water pump and tensioner pulley. Water pump comes in the large blue bag and the sticker has the date that the pump is qc-ed. Tensioner pulley comes in the white box on the very right. Bag for timing belt on the same, same as what OP showed. Bag for hydraulic tensioner is the 2nd from the right. The bag or the box or bag color is the first indication whether the part is fake or genuine.

This post/thread scares me.

2008 Touring / Current miles 105K

I replaced Timing Belt and associated items 12/2019 with a kit from Amazon @ 96K miles. All seems wonderful since. In fact better in many ways.

When ordering kit I noticed the origination/supplier/shipping company was down the street.
I called them to see if I could pick up kit. They said no. Just order it, it will come from them. They were correct. It came from them down the street. Like next day.
I have entered this store and purchased many items in past fwiw. Great place.

Anyway.

If I took pic of timing belt label of installed belt, would one be able to determine if fake? It definitely did not say Honda on TB fwiw.

But I read every thread here prior to TB job and many said the TBs were made by two or three companies IIRC. All Japaneses sounding names. IIRC the label on my TB was a Japanese sounding name. It definitely did not say Honda on the belt.

Same for Tensioner. Of course only a wee bit is protruding from TB cover, but is that possible too? Photo to determine if fake?

If tensioner is fake wouldn't I get the same sounds as prior that forced the change?
A warning somewhat prior to total failure? The clicking/weird sounds when cold?

I was forced ( thankfully - I think) to replace my belt due to the tensioner clicking/making noise when cold/ then went away once warmed up. It got progressively worse quickly fwiw.

From this forum I learned to turn my right wheel to left, look at tensioner, I reached up and touched it when cold and it was chattterring away. So obvious.
That is what forced me to replace TB. The bad tensioner.
At the time the miles were 96K . But the time was 11 years. Oh My. o_O
Old TB looked fine fwiw. I know, that don't mean squat.

So;
Will photos of installed belt label or tensioner determine if fake parts?

Thanks

I welcome all comments.

If the place that sold the kit on amazon has a brick and mortar business near you, has a good reputation, and has been there a while... Its not likely they are selling counterfeit parts. What did you pay, was it too good to be true or in line with what genuine parts cost?
There are rubber inspection plugs in the timing belt covers, you can peek in there.

If i were you, I'll just go straight to the store and ask them to get more info on how do they get those parts?...maybe they buy overstock from a legit supplier.

How about partsgeek.com? I purchased aisin tkh-002 from them and my timing tensioner pulley is koyo but is blue bearing.

If there are individual parts you are concerned about you can likely get those from a dealer or other reputable source separately for peace of mind.

I bought all my timing components from an online dealer. Out of an abundance of caution, I measured the timing belt's width and thickness, among other things. The width readings ranged from 19.61 to 19.83 mm, and the thickness from 5.13 to 5.30 mm. These un-uniform readings are the manufacturing imperfections, I gather--unless the belt I got from the online dealer is fake! :)

PS: I used a Harbor Freight digital caliper.

If you bought it from an online Honda dealer's site you're fine.

Honda dealers do NOT sell fakes. If you purchased your parts at a legitimate Honda dealer (not off Amazon), you have no business in this fake parts thread. :censored:

Edit
To clarify, a lot of real Honda dealers also sell on Amazon. Those are fine too as long as the part(s) are shipped from the dealer and NOT from Amazon warehouses.

Can confirm. Around April of 2020 I purchased a driver's side center roller off Amazon. Sold and shipped by a Honda dealer in Michigan (Cawood Honda I think). I think if it was a fake I would know by now 3 years later :)
