I had the TSB applied to my '11 at about 10k miles. Now at 52k miles the same noise from the same place is back. The dealership refuses to apply the TSB or any other sort of fix without first charging a $120 diagnostic fee. Honda does not care to help either for a band aid fix that does not work for a factory problem in the first place.

Thats terrible. Is it because its past the 36K?

Bummer. Call Honda Customer Service directly to see what they say. The dealership is not Honda so to speak so they may not want to do any work on their own dime, but IIRC Honda is able to direct them to perform work and then invoice them for it once done.

I did call their customer service....I explained to them that they applied a band aid under warranty for and item that was a factory defect in the same place. Now that the band aid has worn off they refuse to do anything without me first paying a diagnostic fee. They were actually more rude than the dealer. The lady just kept talking over me saying "this is the Honda America policy" over and over....I finally hung up on her.

Sorry to hear about it. I know how you feel in regards to customer service. You get someone who just keeps repeating the script sitting in front of them. Honda, Comcast no difference.

I had a similar situation with the BMS lo batt bug. I gave up, requested for the case number and called back until I got a less clueless agent who was more helpful. Try to keep it civil too, tough, but it helps

Brought the van to the Honda dealer and they applied Shin-Etsu grease to the front suspension, didn't specify where, but this resolved the creaking noise. Probably wrong grease or not enough grease is being applied at the factory.
had the same creaking sound after the second trans was put tin, when they put the 3rd trans in the creaking went away, i was told the subframe wasnt seated properly causeing the suspension to bind a bit, also had the poping sound and changed the swaybar links and bushings, that sound went away too,.

I recently purchased a 2013 TE and have the exact same problem. It was really pronounced on cold mornings, but now seems to be doing it all the time. Took it into the dealer once and they did something, not sure that made it stop for about 2 weeks. They told me if it persisted they'd have to replace the strut. I'll let you know if that fixes my issue.

I had this show up at 15K miles and was treated at that time by the TSB at the dealer. Now as a few others are reporting the noise is back. I have 45K miles on the van now and it's starting to creek just a bit when i back down the driveway. I plan to take it back to them and I'll be damned if they are going to charge for an existing problem. First chance I can take it in is next week.

Let's us know how it goes.

I bought a 2013 Ody in June last year. I've had this strut issue and here is what they have done to attempt a resolution thus far:

- Replaced both strut mounts (no resolution)
- Replaced both strut assemblies (some resolution but problem came back more pronounced)
- Replaced both bump stops via service bulletin from Honda (the sound was gone, but is slowly coming back)

Now, the vehicle was in a minor (maybe?) collision where it was parked and someone backed into it at 45 degrees front driver side. The body shop said there was no damage and the shop has seen the underside 3 times now so I'm assuming that they determined there was no significant damage. If the issue persists I will write a letter to Honda Canada.

My Ody has 21000km.

Mine was serviced a year or so back and the noise comes and goes from time to time. Overall it's very minor and I may only hear it once a month. Overall it's nowhere near the constant squeaking prior to the service. It does seem to be the rubber for the strut rod protector rubbing on the strut top/sides.

I just turned 60k km on my Oddysey 2012 and Dealer won't look at it without charging me. The local dealer wants $30 for Shin-Etsu Grease (one tube repairs about 40 vehicles). Does anyone know if there is a get smilar / better grease at local Canadian Tire store. I'm thinking about about performing 11-038 SB myself. I hope I don't have to change struts... First I had issues with $$$ breaks/rotores isssues. My Ody 2006 was much better...

It is silicone based and genuine OEM. Sil-Glyde (less than $10) or equivalent is an alternative from auto parts store.

Source of suspension squeaks

Often suspension squeaks are the result of the rubber bushings rubbing against metal. The rubber gives off a distinctive squeak when it is dry.

The most common culprits are:
1. The upper control arm bushings.
2. The lower control arm bushing.
3. The sway bar bushings.
4. The strut mount and/or bushings.

If it is a bushing or rubber/metal problem, lubricating the offending parts may stop the squeak.

Do not use petroleum-based grease on any rubber bushings. The petroleum will cause the bushings to deteriorate.

I have used Sil-Glyde from Napa. It is a silicon-based lubricant that is very effective, won't harm rubber bushings, and is quite long-lasting. A tube of Sil-Glyde costs about $6-$7, and it goes a long way.

As a short-term alternative, you can spray some silicone-based lubricant onto the bushings and try to get it down into the area where rubber and metal are contacting. In my experience this provides a short-term reprieve from the squeaking, but it doesn't last long, as the silicone spray is simply too light-duty to hold up for very long.

Good luck!

Has anyone confirmed that lubing control arm or swaybar bushings improves this specific issue? Anyone have a schematic of the strut assembly to identify the specific offending rubber part that needs lubing?

I assume a) the strut comes out b) you'll need a spring compressor to disassemble/assemble/lube the offending part and C) you'll need a front-end alignment afterward.
