I have a 2003 Odyssey. And it’s making the whining noise from the power steering. After some research on the symptoms it looks like it’s just a bad O-ring on the low pressure side that needs to be replaced.
Now I’ve got a couple boxes of different size O-rings from Harbor freight and if possible I’d like to use one of these instead of making a trip to the dealer for an o-ring (one box from HF has black o-rings that says they are “Nitrile Rubber,” and a box with green o-rings that says they “HNBR”, see pics below).

Is it OK to use one of the harbor freight O-rings, or does it have to be some special type of O-ring to work?

iirc I paid about $8 for both o-rings- at my local dealership.

What's your time worth? Do you want to do the job over in a week or two? You can't even tell us the composition of the HF O-rings, so how can we tell if they are suitable for use with the Honda PS fluid?

your harbor freight ones are likely rubber vs silicone/butyl which are the ones on the power steering hoses.
are the ones you have black red or green?

cheap part at the dealer...
I have two boxes from harbor freight, one with black o-rings that says they are “Nitrile Rubber,” and a box with green o-rings that says they “HNBR” will either of these work? (Original post updated with pictures of the o-rings).

Thanks for the clarification. One HF box is with black o-rings that says they are “Nitrile Rubber,” and the other box has green o-rings that says they “HNBR.” (Original post updated with pictures of the o-rings s from HF).
Will either of these be ok with the power steering fluid.
Also, any idea if they only work on the high pressure side? Or will it only be ok to use on tue low pressure side (since I think one o-ring goes on the low pressure side and one the other goes on the high pressure side).

@MatthewWi , just get the damned Honda OEM O-ring. If you have to do this twice, you'll wish you did.

Chances are the HF box of O-rings is probably made from the lowest grade base compounds that the chinese can call "nitrile" or "HBNR" (it's probably made from recycled Kleenex fiber mixed into old, melted cat litter boxes).

Never underestimate the "power" of communist chinese-made crap to fail when you don't want it to. This is the steering on your car.

Steering. Brakes. Lighting. Don't go cheap on the important stuff.

P.S: Not a condemnation of "all things HF," just their el-cheapo bulk crap.
