I received a notice from Honda about a warranty extension, but no mention they were going to do any work.

I'll have to ask about this when I take it in for the airbag recall.
They won't do anything unless you actually have corrosion issues. Otherwise, it's wait and see.

Dielectric grease contains silicone oil plus a thickener (see Silicone grease - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ).

I use Gunk's silicone spray lubricant for a variety of uses and always have a can around.

Decided to spray down the tail gate badges and chrome garnish strip with it.

Wiped off the excess.

The lubricant is water resistent and should hang around for a long time.

In theory it should reduce or stop the galvanic action but don't know what the reality is.

We live in a area that uses road salt and we have a metallic paint job.

Any thoughts about this as a preventative measure.

I drove a Toyota Sienna for 12 years--not a speck of rust. I take great care of my vehicles--but if this 2011 Honda shows me the slightest sign of rust---I will get rid of it and never buy another Honda! I guess I didnt do my homework--If I would have been aware of the trans problems--I wouldnt have the one I have. Buzzard
The vast majority of newer cars nowadays have crappy trannies. Don't buy a sienna.. It's tranny sucks too... And mine has a host of other issues.

We are having a similar issue with our 2011 Odyssey that we bought used in December from a Honda dealer (as-is).

All the way at the bottom of the rear liftgate there is a thin line of rust forming. We'll take it to the dealer on your advice regarding the recall, but assuming that the dealer gives us the runaround, how do we go about finding a place to fix this? I already reached out to our local collision shop and they passed on it.

I have the same issue with my 2011. The local Honda dealership and Honda customer relations said the Honda US bulletin doesn't apply in Canada. How did you guys get Honda to own up to their issue and fix the rust?

Rust on 2011 Tailgate

I have discovered rust in 3 places on my 2011 Odyssey. At each side where chrome meets metal and below licence plate. I have already had in for recall a couple of years ago for rust from licence plate bolts. I am due for a service and will show to my dealer. Read the the warranty extension bulletin 13-002 for 2011 - 12 Odyssey Tailgate Paint Finish that someone mentioned on an earlier post. Thanks.
PS I just uploaded 1 picture of the left side. The right side loos the same.
