This is a follow up as promised about securing Shin Etsu grease.

That initial post did not work the way I thought.

See Post #9, in above link, regarding my comments about grease availability. 11/22/22.

Shin Etsu Grease was/is impossible to find / have delivered.

I have had difficulties securing Shin Etsu Grease for a very long time.

When near our local dealers, I go in and ask about this mysterious grease. They look at me with glazed eyes and say, we are not allowed to talk about that, nor even sell that.

I had added it to several online orders with other items, over the months, then it never ships.

At least once it delayed an order for weeks, waiting for this grease. I had to call and ask what is the delay for my parts. They say waiting on grease. I say send available parts now. Will figure grease out later. So grease cancelled.

I have ordered it alone at least three times, and it never ships.

Grease will load on order, say in stock, then pay, all good, then a day or two later they send email saying, nope, not available, back ordered, cancelling order.

I finally have it in my hands.
It feels like hydrocortisone cream fwiw.
My first time experiencing Etsu grease.
I've heard / read so much about this amazing grease.
Can't wait to work it into so many dehydrated areas.

Ordered 11/22/22 from;
HondaPartsConnection.com
Brannon Honda
Birmingham, AL
866-587-1233

Took almost a month to ship.
But it did ship, and arrive after a couple weeks.

Shipped 12/12/22 ~
Received / Delivered 12/15/22

Just thought I would provide an update as promised.

I have 4 cars in our corral. Almost everyone has issues with door/trunk gaskets.
I have tried everything in my arsenal to lube said gaskets. Nothing seems to last.
Everyone swears by this product. Can't wait to apply / try.

I also think this will help our Ody sliders operate / open smoother.
I swear 1/4 of our problem is sticky / ancient / rarely used / operated / gaskets / doors.

Just an Update.

Honda Part # 08798-9013

Lots of different sizes and weights floating about.

One site says; Tube says .01 ounces.
Honda Parts Now says .04 pounds
The real tubes are in Japanese , so, . . . . can't read.

This tube is 7 inches long, with one inch for lid / top section.
So the tube is 6 inches long and on average 1 1/4 wide.
This tube is big.
I saw .04 oz. somewhere and thought I needed two.
It's more like .4 kg = 14oz. That is what it feels like at least.
It is a big tube is the point.
Likely don't need more than one tube unless you have multiple vehicles.

Oh, and now it is available everywhere.
Well no wonder it shipped recently. lol.

Remember, just a touch of this product goes a looong way, on your gaskets, or whatever your needed application may be.

The true test will be on trunk gaskets. Where they are activated, inadvertently, yet the young drivers don't realize, are clueless. Then the interior light is on for days and kills the battery

That was my life a while back till I pulled the trunk bulbs.
Leds didn't help.

Also, they are driving around with the trunk open technically.
And often the alarm would go bonkers, they couldn't figure it out. It was / is still is a big problem. It was the trunk. On both kids cars. lol.

Well, the trunk is open, yet not visually open. Yet super hard to pull open, I will admit.

I just wish the trunk and gas cap pull was located in different areas.

What can you do?

:(

So after applying this product to 2 kid cars, I will hope when trunk activated, intentionally or not, trunk will actually open always. So they may have an actual chance to see the issue.
In rear view mirror I guess.
Everyone can have dreams, yes.

No. I have to rig a big Dummy Light in dash somewhere indicating trunk open.
There is every other possible light on the dash. But not trunk open. Oh my.
Who designs these cars? Obviously not parents. Idiots.

Wait, even with new dash trunk open light, they will never notice likely, amongst all the other lights, so why spend 3 hours installing. ?? ?

Plus they are still looking down on thier phones, or looking down to some sort of screen.

It won't work till they have F-22 heads ups displays.
JMO.

Welcome to parenthood of teenagers.

Good Luck to all.

And remember, check the trunk.
Or pull the bulbs.

I actually understand it this way ... you pull a trunk release, say on an Accord. Latch is undone, but trunk lid is stuck to the gasket. It looks closed, but is not. Can't engage anti-theft system with fob, because a hatch/door/hood is open.

I still laughed my @55 off at the above convo, though. My sides hurt.:ROFLMAO::giggle:

Latch is undone, but trunk lid is stuck to the gasket. It looks closed, but is not.
And the trunk light is on for some stupid reason half the time. Until trunk properly closed.
And this state can continues for weeks. With my teens. Crazy.
Kills battery. Several times.

I eventually disconnected the trunk light electrical connecter, even after installing led trunk bulbs,

This is what I was tying to elaborate.
Thank you @0dyfamily

Old Odys can have this same experience with sliders, or any door if not operated often.
I believe this is half our problem with our sliders. Gaskets stuck/sticking.
Cause we rarely use/open them now. Since kids now have own cars.

I'm going to lube all Ody gaskets , and said cars trunk gaskets.
As mentioned. I have tried almost everything. Trunk gaskets still stick.

Those trunks/hatches even when "clicked" open are still very difficult to actually pull open by hand from the outside. Like real hard. That's the problem.

Did you grasp that?
Even an intentional trunk/hatch open click, it's still very difficult to open said rear door/trunk.

I hope this pricey Honda Grease will finally solve the issue.

Several times, the kids are driving down the interstate at warp speed, and the trunk opens. Duh. It's been open / "clicked open" for days. But no one knew.
What can you do ? ? ?

It's become a safety issue IMO.

Shin Etsu to the rescue.
I Hope.

I've noticed my trunk seal on my Accord sticking a couple times. I applied some silicone grease to see if it helps.

Interestingly, the seal also has a little crack on the driver's side half of it on the part that runs along the windshield. Apparently this is somewhat common across the 8th gen Accords and it's not leaking so I left it alone.

Not Shin Etsu related ... but similar, just happened.

The battery on my old Odyssey is almost 7 years old. I always keep it on a low-amp smart maintainer (it can't handle any loads) during the van's considerable down-time when not used as a work van. It performed strongly this last summer, and the few times I used it this winter.

Wife retrieved something from the van this week, didn't even latch the hatch while closing it. Interior lights killed the battery, 100% dead, zero volts.

She swore that she closed it. Not even close.

Time to buy a new battery this winter.

On the Shin-Etsu note, the sliding door seals just don't want to release their grip on those doors when we open them with the switch. Might be time to try this stuff.

Probably time for my Ody too once I return from being out of town at the end of the month. I did disconnect it before I left so hopefully it will at least be good enough to get me one start when I get back, if I need to jump it I will be in trouble as the Accord is sitting at a friend's house. Not to mention the challenge of jumping a vehicle when the front is facing inside the garage. Last time I had to do that I ended up having to push the van all the way out of the garage so I could bring the other car in from the side to give me enough room to jump it. I really should get a jump pack at some point.

The battery was already suspect before I left, dying on me once on Thanksgiving weekend, but it was also completely fine after jumping it and tested good, so we'll see what happens. It's 3 years + a couple months old so I wouldn't feel bad about replacing it.

OP update;

Applied the grease to all gaskets and metal mating surfaces on van.

The sliders never once hesitated. Like they did prior. I feel the grease is a great help.

However, after recent rain, then quick freeze within an hour, grease no help.
Gaskets frozen to all doors, etc. No way to get sliders open. Oh my.
Well I thought it might prevent such incident, but no.
No fighting mother nature.
Of course, couldn't have hurt, and possibly prevented a torn gasket pulling drivers door open.

Just to clarify, did you apply it both on the van end of the gasket and the door end of the gasket?
