Which models is this applicable to? 2005-2006 only? LX, EX, EX-L, Touring?

FWIW, I used one of your other videos for VTEC gaskets on my 2010 EX-L and the $5 ebay gasket is working great...

Great video. Its always nice to have a heads up about the inner workings before deciding to tackle job or not. FYI, Napa carries both gaskets for under $20.

 

Multiple threads on this indicate the aftermarket gaskets spring leaks very soon. Any long term opinions? Buddy's 2007 Touring has developed a leak again after the gasket replacement. Worth another gamble?

 

Definitely. Buy the gaskets and put them on. I would add a thin layer of Sealant on them before putting them on. Not needed but extra insurance.

If you want 100% guaranteed no leaks, buy the OEM assembly for a small fortune and just use the gaskets from it.

 

That's why you have to buy these aftermarket gaskets. I wouldn't call them counterfeit, there just not Honda parts, as Honda does not sell just the gaskets. I think it is worth trying and taking the chance. I also seem to recall some people have found Dorman brand gaskets at Auto Zone, etc....although I am not positive if this is for the same application or something differnet.

 

Just as an update from my post from 7 months ago (post #5). I replaced the gaskets in my solenoid in March of ‘19 and ~80,000 miles ago and still no leaks using Napa gaskets kit #917-0268-1.

 

Going to replace mine, but I can't find inner gasket OEM part number, does it even exist? I want to go with OEM gaskets instead of aftermarket

Nope. Doesn’t exist. The aftermarket ones have been hit or miss. Most people buy the genuine Honda spool valve and install just the top part with the new Honda gasket.
