That's exactly what they did on the Ridgeline. So may just be ditto on the Ody.

Yes, I hope there is more. Using the Ridgeline as an example again. They kept the same SOHC J35 and 9 speed ZF auto, when Honda could have just swap both engine and drivetrain from the Pilot. The 2025 MDX is not getting the DOHC engine too. Make me wonder if there's "something else..." that we don't know about... They all are built in the same plant. Why not use the same parts. If it was the other way around, where Acura MDX got the new DOHC engine, then I can understand. The rest of Honda have to wait. Seems like the refreshes are with the same old engine.

I’ve been to Kia , Toyota and Honda dealers , tested all minivans twice , got quotes and wait times for all

toyota has 1-12 months wait time with more than msrp price markup , no 8 seats in higher trims

kia asks higher than msrp and really hard to find sx or sx prestige too trim levels

Honda asks 8-10 percent discount and dealer lots are full of odysseys

that’s why Honda sells more than Toyota - don’t get me wrong it’s very competitive vehicle , better than Toyota in many ways

It does make sense to keep the SOHC in the MDX since the Pilot DOHC loses VTEC and a lot of character in order meet emissions requirements.

My understanding is that any brand new generation of car models must meet the latest emission standards to be able to sell in the U.S. market. It's good Odyssey keeps using the same drivetrain that's proven powerful, smooth and reliable.

We have a 2018 that until this past transmission fluid change had been done by the dealer. Since 40 thousand miles, it has clunked when shifting and seems to be trying to find a gear. Even took a service tech for a ride and he swore that's normal. Dealer over filled it once to "cure" the problem. Until Honda replaces the transmission with something that works, I'll look at other manufacturers very seriously for its replacement. Like many, we have been in the Odyssey family for years having owned a 2000, 2009 and now a 2018.

We are going to Sienna from a 2002 Ody due to Active noise cancellation, VCM, and no hybrid on the Ody. Honda is getting behind.
Eventually odyssey and sienna come to same price
Honda gives huge discount compared to Toyota so it offsets gas mileage expenditure and resale value

but I can’t find Toyota to buy

Is 9 speed automatic needed a fluid change at 40k but 10 speed is not needed?

2025 Changes Per Dealership Leak

Hi All, just got the information from a Honda dealership that the following changes were coming for 2025(NOT official Honda confirmed):

2025 Odyssey - Updated Cabin. New grille and front fascia. New wheels. Digital gauge cluster. Configurable. 12.8” high-resolution screen for rear entertainment. Tons of USB-C ports. EX-L, Sport, Touring, and Elite will be the trims.

Hope they keep the current drivetrain or update to the newer DOHC V6 and the 2nd gen Honda 10-speed transmission. This V6 and its torquey power delivery and high efficiency is one of Honda Odyssey's great advantages against the competitions.
Efficiency? The Toyota Sienna hybrid gets mid-30's gas mileage. The Honda doesn't come close to that. It would be a good idea for Honda to also go Hybrid, assuming they can stay close to 300HP.

You didn't test the Pacifica? It drives better than all the others. If you shop Toyota dealers I am sure you can find one who will sell you the car at MSRP, you just need to wait for it to come in. But, I looked at the Sienna and the non-removal center seats make the interior less able to carry cargo. The interior is also very cheap.

Your Kia dealers are also asking above MSRP? I know at least one Kia dealer who sells below MSRP. My SIL bought one a couple weeks ago and she got hers below MSRP. I wonder where you are located that all the dealers are asking above MSRP.

Off the top of my head the Honda has the following advantages over the Sienna:

More HP.
More cargo capacity.
Handles much better.
Easier to service.

If you shop around, you can get ok prices on the car you really want.

Pacifica has the lowest reliability rating

I’ve been to 4 different Toyota dealers , and center seat in second row is a joke , including materials are worse than Honda

By the way , dealers have 2023 Pacifica hybrids left in their lots , giving 15-20 percent discount before federal tax credit so 50k Pacifica hybrid comes to 35 but with 7 seats

Very few people who have driven the Honda and the Pacifica would say the Pacifica drives better. It's like 10% of reviewers that don't say the Odyssey is the better driving vehicle.

I am in a bit of squeeze and looking for guidance. My current lease expires in March, 2024. Should I wait for the Odyssey in July or August or just buy another car. I don’t want to buy the current generation (resale values + old tech )

Couple of questions.
  1. Are we guaranteed to see a new odyssey in mid 2024 as a 2025 model? Are there any Honda folks that can confirm

  2. If so, for the past 2 generations were the first year models reliable?
no company can't tell "we have a all new model coming up in few months" unless sales are really bad. Odyssey sells a lot of because of various reasons.

Worst case scenario - buy 2024 V6 Odyssey, use it for few months and trade it in by losing 2-3 thousand dollar which will offset losing that much because new model is coming with 2.0 Hybrid - Same engine that Accord has -

Driving hybrid vs V6 vehicle gas cost difference is around $800 a year

What do you mean by old tech ? Only major differences will be :

12 or 15" Rear Entertainment screen vs 10" low resolution screen

12"+ Navigation screen

2.0 Hybrid - This could be a drawback for some as V6 sound is pure enjoyment for me to drive this vehicle every time

Fancy key fob, new design, better materials, etc

Long story short, I was in your shoes 3 weeks ago, checking every news to see if Odyssey comes with AWD or at least Hybrid next year and Sienna refresh would fix middle seat issue but you know what, it is a vehicle, my family was not comfortable with my BMW X3, harsh ride (handles well though) had me enough.

I am also hoping they bring over the 360 camera system that the new Pilot has.

That 9 speed German transmission is not as smooth as Honda's own 10-speed transmission that's probably the best in industry.

Minivan drivers want fuel efficient vehicles, not horsepower gas guzzlers

sienna sells a lot because of hybrid engine
Yes and no :)
I'd like an EV (fuel efficient) with 500 mile range and 500 HP (lots of HP).
I also wouldn't mind a little more ground clearance. 5.5-inches, an inch more, would do. With a huge battery in the floor, COM will still be low.

I would love to see the Bluetooth delay improve. The technology is there. Also, dark cloth seats. Everyone says leather is the best for cleaning up. I would rather have something soft to sit on than scalding leather and skin sticking to it. Also, maybe a Type R model? Bring back the vacuum?

Leather tends to be more comfortable to me. I've had cloth and it aint all that great. The Bluetooth situation does need a looking at. Type R? Oh they'll never make an Odyssey Type R. Lol! I wish. you'll have to fork over the cash and build your own. Maybe swap in the V6 from the MDX Type S. ShopVac was the brand Honda used for the vacuum. It would be awesome for them to bring that back tho.
