I need to put a new one in my 96.

Any opinion on which to chose?

I've used both Denso and Koyo replacement radiators (one each) on a 1993 and 1998 Honda Accord. Dropped right in, everything fit just like the original radiators. Denso and Koyo make stuff for OEM's, and they are good brands.

Have no idea about Spectra. I do not believe they do any sort of manufacturingfor OEM's.

TYC is a purely aftermarket manufacturer; I've used their headlights, and while the lenses are clear, their reflector optics are horrible. This would give me pause to even consider using one of their radiators.

In my limited world view, I put Denso first, since just about every Japanese car manufactured today has at least a few Denso parts in its build. Same can be said for Koyo (especially for bearings).

Dust recently replaced radiator in 2004 Ody. I used Denso radiator. Quality was good, fit right in without any fuss.
Original on the Odyssey was also Denso, but made in USA, the replacement was made in Taiwan or Indonesia or something like that.
I would also use Koyo without hesitation.

I would consider Spectra if neither of the above two is available.
If you buy from RockAuto, you should have a full pick of brands though.

My original radiator started leaking at the top plastic tank joint to main radiator.
I used a 'lifetime guaranteed' radiator off Ebay, Only around $60 with free shipping. It doesn't cool as well as the original one.
I wish radiators would come with some kind of heat transfer rate so you could make a better decision.
For me it was a PITA to replace the radiator in my 2003 outside. I ended up removing the front bumper, etc which made the job a lot easier for me. Still a pain.
The radiator fit fine and still doesn't leak, but it doesn't dissipate heat as well as the original (mainly noticeable while driving at 70+ mph during 90-100 F temps on the freeway on longer trips.)
If I had to do it again, I would spend the extra $30-50 for a Denso or Koyo.
Without a flow or heat dissipation rating, it is difficult to make a choice. So, I would stick with one of those two brands, even though another one (possibly even an ALL aluminum one) might be better.

PS: I did replace the thermostat (OEM), did a complete coolant flush (using distilled water etc) and replaced both radiator hoses at the same time. At least a new radiator provides a new clean ATF cooler section in the bottom of it. :ahh:

When shopping for a new radiator for my former Cutlass, I went to a rad shop. They had the heat transfer ratings for each of their three offerings. The range was large. The best (and most expensive) was OEM. (AC Delco for that car.)

Try a rad shop in the guise of shopping for a radiator to possibly get the heat transfer ratings . It's a good point you raised.

Great feedback. Thank you. I've been scouring the web. Denso seems to be well regarded; little or nothing negative. Koyo seems to be up and down. TYC some negative; some comments that TYC and Koyo are the same. Spectra Premium seems to have some positives.

Based on price,
Denso 100
Spectra 80
TYC 60
Koyo -- harder to find, 70

I think for me it's coming down to is the Denso worth $20 more than the Spectra/Koyo. Partsgeek has a great selection, but Amazon is convenient and prices are about the same.

I cannot recall anybody ever complaining about Denso products of any type. It's why mfgrs like Subaru, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, etc. use them for many new-build parts.

I found nothing negative about Denso either. Amazon ships with prime, so I can tear into the one I have, and be sure a replacement is wise, then order. My risk is I find other issues and decide the Ody is not worth fixing any longer. I've been in that mode for 3 years. When I did the ckp-tdc sensor that lead to TB, water pump, valve cover seal, and plugs. I got 2 years thusfar, so I figure it was worth it. But my check engine light glows nicely for the EGR lift issue, and the ABS light comes and goes. When I have time, I don't mind noodling around on things, but it's probably time to have a 2nd spare vehicle ready ;-)
